Bullish economists and market participants have had to look for fuel to a sustainable recovery outside the purview of consumer spending. American’s consumption habits account for approximately 75 percent of overall growth; and the burden of a 26-year high in unemployment, shrinking wages and anemic levels of confidence do not set a precedence for a strong return to expansion heading into 2010.
